Obituary of Stanley H. Paluck

After a long, active and healthy life, Stanley passed away peacefully at Sakura House Hospice in Woodstock on Friday, June 6, 2014. As he would say, “I’m past my due date. I’m 97, you know.” Born March 22, 1917, Stanley was fortunate to have the love and support of two sisters and one brother, Helen, Gladys (deceased) and Joseph (deceased). He was blessed to have been married twice to two wonderful women, Henrietta Pileski (1979) and Mary Bryers (2012). He leaves behind his son, Richard Paluck (Linda) and two daughters, Lorraine Putnins (Imants) and Christine Paterson (Gene) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stanley grew up in the depression era and would often talk of searching for coal on the train tracks with his brother Joe and of his mother making grass soup in order to feed the family. He couldn’t throw away anything and I’m sure we’ll find a large collection of elastic bands tucked away in a drawer. After retiring from TRW (United Car Fastener) as a Tool & Die maker, Stanley spent more time playing bridge, golfing and curling and was a long time member of the Glendale Golf and Country Club. He loved his vegetable garden and grew tomatoes, green beans, beets and the occasional mystery vegetable. He met Mary at Popolini’s Dance Studio and they soon realized they were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. At the time, they hoped for “a good ten years.” It was a marriage that happily lasted 30 years. Stanley and Mary were regulars at Club 60 in Winona and enjoyed many years of travelling together before they started to “slow down” at the age of ninety. Stanley was a good man and an honest man. Stanley’s life was touched by many wonderful people, neighbours, friends, golf partners, fellow card players and travellers. The family would like to thank the kind and patient staff at the Harvest Retirement Home in TIllsonburg, especially the nurses for their exceptional and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. As per Stanley’s wishes, there will be no visitation but a toast to his life with a good pilsner would certainly be in order.
