It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nikola Vračar, at the age of 76.

Nikola passed away peacefully at Juravinski Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of Ljubica, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.  A cherished father to Donna (George) Rakas and Danijela (Branko) Živković. Devoted grandfather to Dimitri, Nikolas, Luka and Alek.  His four Grandchildren were his greatest gift.  He lived for them, took immense pride in them, and was happiest whenever the entire family was together. 

Nikola was a deeply faithful Christian and loyal member of his Church. His faith remained a constant source of strength throughout his life.

He carried an immense love for his hometown Bačka Palanka, Serbia, where he and Ljubica returned every summer whenever they could. He also had a deep love for music, especially his Bećarac - a sound that carries the spirit of the Bačka region along the Danube river where he was from.

He will be deeply missed by his sister Milica (Pero) in Serbia, his niece and nephew and their families, as well as his family, friends and kumovi in Serbia and Canada.

Nikola leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories , faith and family.  His presence will be deeply missed, but his love will remain with us always.

Special Thank you to Dr. Shivani Dadwal for her care during Nikola’s courageous battle with cancer.  As well as the staff at Juravinski Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days.

Visitation will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Thursday, August 27, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., with Pomen at 8 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 153 Nash Road South, Hamilton, on Friday, August 28, at 12 p.m. with the Very Reverend Father Djuro Samac officiating. Interment to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery.
