Richard Baker Obituary
Richard Baker, aged 93, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Jean, who passed in 1994 and to whom he had been married for 43 years. He was also predeceased by two of his daughters, Gwenn and Shirley and his mother, Lydia (Linda) and his brother, Rae. Richard will be sadly missed by his son David and his wife Darlene and his remaining daughter Cathie. Also mourning his passing are his grandkids Sherri (Guido), Brandy (Dennis), Michael, David (Candice) and Jeffrey (Krista). He will also be missed by his many great-grandchildren.
Richard was born in Winnipeg on July 7, 1933, and moved with his mother, Lydia and his brother, Rae to Toronto when he was 6. From there they moved to the Hamilton area when he was 12, where he has lived ever since (most recently in Stoney Creek). His mother and brother have since passed and his father, Richard, had passed before he was born. Richard had a tough life growing up during the depression and WWII with a single mother but he was lucky enough to get a good job at Dofasco in his early twenties and worked there for 37 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 166 and the Royal Canadian Legion branch 622. Richard was also a ham radio operator, call sign VE3GHI, and spent many hours communicating with hams from all over the world and attending ham fests with his brother where they would swap and buy and sell radio equipment with other hams.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Satellite Health facility and Idlewyld Nursing Home for making him comfortable in his final months.
There will be a visitation at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Monday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. Donations to your favourite charity in his name are welcome in lieu of flowers.
