Carolyn Alice Briggs Obituary
With both sorrow and relief, I announce the sudden passing of my beloved Mom at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton as the sun was setting on a beautiful spring day. We were not ready, but Mom's medical struggles had been immense for the past few years, months, weeks and days. Mom's hand was in mine as she left peacefully to join others she loved.
Predeceased by husband Fred on June 1st, 2023, after nearly 64 years of marriage; Mom always said she had not had enough time with Dad. She was predeceased by her parents Alice and Ted Stewart whom she missed immensely. She found much happiness in daughter Adrienne and granddaughter Vanessa (Calvin), but her greatest joy was her great-granddaughter, Effie. Effie sustained her. She was a wonderful Wife, Sister and Daughter, Mom, Grams and G G, and continues to be very influential in Vanessa's life. Mom also leaves behind heartbroken sisters Marilyn Ogilvie (Robert), and Brenda Long (the late Brian), niece Marianne Long (Dan), nephews David Ogilvie (Kelly), Douglas Long (Lisa), and their families, as well as sister-in-law Nancy Briggs.
Born in Hamilton, she lived in Hamilton and Stoney Creek for all of her life, and was a wonderful friend and neighbour to so many. For more than 30 years until retirement, she was a secretary and then insurance broker for Bertram and Barry Insurance Brokers in Stoney Creek.
Mom and Dad helped organize many conventions for SCCA and were very active in the promotion of amateur film making for pleasure and competition. Lifelong friendships were made in the various clubs in which they were involved throughout North America. They were very involved in Beach Canal Light House Group, The Head of The Lake Historical Society, Stoney Creek Historical Society and Burlington Historical Society. Mom ran the house and family, worked full time, entertained, and always looked great. She was a renaissance woman.
The family would like to thank Amica Senior Lifestyles Stoney Creek where Mom lived and received care for nearly 4 years, Bayshore Home Health, Summit Heights Retirement Residence, St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, and the paramedics who provided her with compassionate care.
A visitation will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Wednesday June 3, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow.
If desired donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada or a charity of your choice. Notes of sympathy and condolence may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca
