Roberta Broughton Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roberta Broughton on May 29, 2026, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Roberta was born and raised in Winona, Ontario, and attended Saltfleet High School. She spent the majority of her life in Stoney Creek, where she built deep roots in her community and family. It was in high school that she met Joe Broughton, and together they raised their two sons.
Roberta was a devoted mother to Craig (Brenda) and Garth (Petra), and a proud and loving grandmother to Meg, Marissa, Sean (Taylor), and Graham. She was predeceased by her sister, Judith Bradshaw, and will be remembered with love by her brother-in-law Malcolm and niece Sarah (Richard).
She was a natural caregiver, always placing the needs of others before her own. She provided unwavering support to her parents, her mother-in-law, and many friends in their later years. Her compassion extended into the community, where she volunteered for many years at a local nursing home, offering manicures and companionship to residents.
In 1994, Roberta earned her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from McMaster University, embracing new opportunities and challenges. She went on to provide companionship and support to palliative care patients through the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), taught adult basic education and English as a Second Language at St. Charles, and worked with Goodwill, helping adults with complex needs develop skills and confidence.
Later in life, Roberta found love again with Randy Scott, whom she married in 2007. Together they shared many meaningful years filled with travel, adventure, and active involvement in their church community. Following Randy’s passing in 2019, Roberta faced the onset of Alzheimer’s disease with remarkable resilience.
Though the illness gradually took its toll, it never diminished her warmth, sense of humour, or kind spirit. These qualities endeared her to the compassionate team at Extendicare Ridgeview, who cared for her with dignity and respect.
Roberta will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation to follow.
