It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Mary van Veen, who died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 11, 2026 just a few days after her 97th birthday.

Beloved wife of the late Jan F. A ‘Arnold’ van Veen (2018). She was a loving mother of Paul (Linda), Dirk (Kathie), Janet (Howard), Carolyn (Gino) Mikleus, David (Daniela) and Carl. Cherished grandmother of Mandy (Ken), Derek (Kristy), Kris (Chantelle), Steven (Whitney), Lauren (Matt), Morgan, Daniel, Callum and Alisa. Her proudest title was being a great-grandmother of Spencer, Cooper, Karleigh, Parker, Olivia, and Claire. She will be deeply missed by her brother-in-law John Goff in Wales. Mary will also be missed by many extended family and friends. She is reunited with her beloved granddaughter Janessa Mikleus (2012), as well as her brother Owen (Hazel) Thomas, sister Ann Goff and nephew David Goff.

Known for her beautiful voice and the wedding singer of the 70’s and 80’s. She had a welcoming spirit, she created a lifetime of memories centered around family, laughter and togetherness. She loved hosting large Sunday meals, holiday gatherings, and celebrations where everyone felt welcome at her table. She found joy tending to her gardens, completing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, reading and sharing conversation with those she loved. Many will remember her as a wonderful hostess whose door was always open.

Our heartfelt thanks to PSW’s from Ontario Health at Home and the exceptional care from the nurses and doctors at the Hamilton General Hospital. As per her wishes Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd at the Stoney Creek Legion Main Room, 12 King St E, Stoney Creek, from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers the family kindly request donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society (Ewings Sarcoma) or Canadian Downs Syndrome Society.
