Amidst the blossoms of Spring, we say goodbye to Dave Wakelam, aka Steaklam, aka Captain Splash, aka Dad. He died peacefully on April 25, aged 86. As he said again and again, "I've had a great life". He was surrounded by good music and candlelight and partook of a G & T. Cocktail Hour must continue!  

Predeceased by his wife, Sheila (2009) he is survived by his daughter, Lisa.

Thank you to family and friends for your continued support. We acknowledge the exemplary care Dave received from the healthcare team at Room 144, Juravinski.

Dave was born in Attercliffe, South Yorkshire. After a childhood of rambles, soccer, and grammar school he served his apprenticeship before going on to spend twenty years in the British steel industry. He started a family, enjoying life in the suburbs, travelling extensively, and holidaying around coastal Britain.

By sheer fluke, he was offered the opportunity to cross the Atlantic to Hamilton, transitioning to sales for the final leg of his career before enjoying a long retirement.

Lots of memories of road trips with Sheila and Lisa, business trips around the globe, of fishing at "The Pond”, and of many hands of cribbage at the club.

Please join us on Sunday, May 3 from 2-5 p.m. at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek.

There will be a short reading around 3 p.m.  Do bring your memories of Dave and do bring your positive energy.
