Paul Dykshoorn Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Paul’s passing on April 20, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most. Comfort is found in knowing he has been reunited with his beloved wife, Lona, whom he deeply loved and missed over the past two years.

Born on October 8, 1944, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he moved to Waterloo Region, Ontario in 1946 with his parents, Ridder and Kryna, and his sister, Ada (George). While working at Eaton’s in Hamilton, he met Lona; they married in 1967 and he became a proud father to their daughter, Tanya (Mike) and son, Trevor. He later became a cherished grandfather to Aleah and Cleo. Predeceased by his parents, sister, wife, and son, Paul will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his knowledge, dedication and dependable presence.

Paul’s other great love was travel; whether flying across the globe or camping around North America in their RV. After 30+ years of dedicated service driving trucks for Coca-Cola where the direct route was often required, Paul always enjoyed taking the scenic route in his leisure time. He had a remarkable ability to recall memories from his travels as well as a fierce passion for knowledge about world geography and exploration. That curiosity showed at home, in answering (and usually beating) Jeopardy! contestants, reading, and solving puzzles. Paul was always ready to lend a helping hand, thoughtful and truly caring. He showed his love through quiet, steady actions, especially in his devotion to his wife and family, and he will be greatly missed.

As per Paul’s wishes, a private internment will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated in his memory.
