Irene was born in Toronto, on March 28, 1928, and grew up in the Pape/Danforth area, which is now known as Greektown. She passed away peacefully, on March 2, 2026, at Extendicare Halton Hills. She married her beloved husband Thomas Leslie Mayhew in September of 1954. They welcomed two children shortly after, Paul (1959), and Colleen (1956), while living in the Binbrook area. Irene was predeceased by her daughter Colleen in December of 1969, and later by her husband Thomas in August of 1977. Irene was able to find love and comfort with her husband Alfred Petch, after marrying in 1991, until his passing in 2006. Irene is also predeceased by her dear brother Raymond. Irene was blessed with a grandson Cameron in April of 2003, after her son Paul married his wife Crystal in April of 2001.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
