Obituary of Madeline Marie Potter

Madeline “Maddie” Potter, aged 82, passed away on November 22, 2025. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Madeline is survived by her loving husband, Tom, and her children, Kelli-Lee Howie (John) and John (Nicola). She was predeceased by her daughter, Staci. She also leaves behind her grandsons, Michael, David, Nicholas, and Nathan, and her sisters, Doris and Diane. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Jr.

Throughout her life, Maddie was dedicated to helping others. Following graduation, she worked as a legal secretary for a number of years. She also worked as a residential counsellor in a group home for the disabled, but her true and most cherished occupation was as a wife, mother and homemaker. She served as a foster parent for disabled children and supported the Catholic Children’s Aid Society in multiple facets.  Always wanting to give back to her community, Maddie volunteered with countless organizations, societies and her church. She had a love for all flowers, especially irises and anything unique. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in the beauty of nature. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she was a “grandchild fan extraordinaire”, attending almost every event/game they participated in. She definitely cheered the loudest and made friends wherever she went. Maddie cherished her family deeply and was admired for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. Music was an important part of Maddie’s life. Self taught, she enjoyed playing the piano and accordion and encouraged anyone around to join her in song. Always the first and last one on the dance floor, she tapped her fingers and toes to her favourite tunes until her end.

Cremation has taken place. Maddie’s Mass will be held at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Parish, 400 Pottruff Road North, Hamilton on Saturday, December 6th at 12 p.m. Luncheon/reception to follow. A private family burial will be held at Saint Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Cemetery in Elmira at a later date.

Donations in Maddie’s memory may be made to MADD Canada or The War Amps.
