Obituary of Charalambou Thoma

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charalambou Thoma in her 90th year. Beloved wife, best friend, and travel partner of Perseas Thoma for 66 wonderful years. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers-in-law Dr. Achilleas Thoma (Bev Paddock) and Nicos Thoma (Helen). Cherished mother of Tony Thoma (Babe Santucci), Angela Giardino, and Christopher Giardino. Devoted Yiayia to Serafina, Marius (Hannah), Adrianna, Savvas, Alexandria, and Niki. Charalambou will also be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada, Cyprus, South Africa, and the United States, and by the Kopac family, who lovingly adopted her as their Teta.

Her love for family, friends, and neighbours was evident in every dish she prepared. An extraordinary cook and baker, she delighted in hosting large gatherings in her home. A passionate gardener, she proudly tended hundreds of rose bushes, sharing their beauty with all who visited. Together with her husband, Charalambou helped Cypriot refugees settle in Canada. Her devotion to her faith and heritage was unwavering, and she took immense pride in the family she raised.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who supported us over the past few years—Veronica, Fernanda, Diana, Edel, Eunice, Habi, Lily and her “adopted granddaughter” Rachel—along with the dedicated team from St. Elizabeth’s. Special thanks to Dr. Ralph Profetto for his compassionate care for nearly 40 years.

Friends and family will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Friday, November 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Prayers at 3 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 233 E 15th St, Hamilton, on Saturday, November 22 at 9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Mountview Gardens Cemetery, 735 Hwy 8, Stoney Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Panagia Greek Orthodox Church
