Obituary of Martin Helmut Wixwat
Martin passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on the morning of November 16th. Born to Fritz and Clara Wixwat in Dessau, Germany, Martin immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario with his brother, Helmut Wixwat, in 1957, soon finding work as a landscaper. It was there that Martin met the love of his life, Charlotte. The two were married in 1960 and cherished over 60 years of marriage together.
Martin spent most of his career with Simpsons-Sears, later Sears Canada, until his retirement in 1995. A horticulturalist by trade, Martin was a passionate gardener who maintained extensive flower and vegetable gardens and numerous berry bushes and fruit trees at his Petersburg, Ontario home.
Martin was a devoted husband to his dearly beloved wife, Charlotte (2020), a loving father to his 3 children, Michael (Melanie), Esther (Robb), and Wilfred (Janelle), a proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Kara, Zachary, Joshua, Lisi, Eric, James, Maria, and Benjamin, and a great-grandfather to 3 great-grandchildren, Harrison, Everett, and Matilda.
A history buff blessed with a knack for remembering dates and names, Martin was a memorable storyteller who could make the past come alive with his narrative ability. Martin was a devoted member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Seventh-Day Adventist Church from its founding in 1951, where he faithfully served the Lord, his church, and his community in many capacities, including as Head Elder. In his later years, Martin enjoyed attending the Heritage Green Seventh-Day Adventist Church regularly. Martin was a true family man who will be dearly remembered for his generosity, kindness, honesty, outgoing nature, infectious smile, and his ability to strike up conversation with nearly anyone. Martin awaits reuniting with his loved ones and the crown of righteousness in store for him upon the return of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 18th at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Green Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 349 Isaac Brock Dr., Stoney Creek. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to ADRA Canada are sincerely appreciated.
