Obituary of William John Potma

November 20, 1961 – Grimsby, Ontario

November 4, 2025 – Hamilton, Ontario

We are saddened to announce our brother, William J. Potma of Hamilton Ontario, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 just before his 64th birthday.

Willy was predeceased by his parents, Antje (Anny) Potma and Pieter Thomas Potma and his brother Ken Potma. He is survived by his siblings, Sid Potma and Kelly Veysey (Glyn) and step-sons Michael MacBeath and Jesse McCready as well as various aunts, uncles and cousins in Ontario, British Colombia, and Holland.

Willy was raised in and around Hamilton and Brockville, ON. He graduated from Glendale High School in Hamilton and spent his life working in the trades.  He was a skilled carpenter and worked alongside our father at Amtop Enterprises as a cabinet maker and retired from Out of the Woods Furniture Company in 2022. 

Will lived a pretty simple life. He stuck close to home, keeping his circle of friends tight.  He was kind and generous of heart. He will be missed by the friends that were family – the dePagters and the Flamelings. Friendships started in childhood days and continued with the gathering around a restaurant table for breakfast, coffee and conversations.  He will be missed by the gang at Fernbrook Resort.  Coronation Street has lost a dedicated follower.

We did not want to miss the opportunity to thank the medical team at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Medical Step-Down Unit.  Thank you for the compassion and care you showed to Will and to us in his final days.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date.
