Obituary of George William Wallace

This world became a little less bright on September 28 when George left us to go sing with the angels.  He peacefully passed at Shalom Manor in Grimsby, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89.

George is reunited with his beloved wife Carol (2001).  Predeceased by his sister Patricia Blake (late John) and brother Stanley Wallace.  George was the son of the late John and Emily Wallace.

Mourning his loss but celebrating his life are his son Kevin (Leanne), daughter Karen, and grandchildren Ryan (Ashley) and Taylor.  George will be dearly missed by his partner in crime of 22 years, June Southall and family.

George was larger than life.  Though small in stature, he made up for it with the heart of a giant.  His always present smile and sense of humor would light up any room.  His generosity went above and beyond in all aspects of his life, and it was very rare to hear him utter the word “no” to anyone.

George was a dedicated lifelong salesman.  Starting his career working at Canadian Grinding Wheel in Hamilton, he transferred to Calgary for seven years and upon his return started his own company George Wallace & Associates Inc. which then became Steel Cut Industries.  George finally retired at the age of 75.

George was in his glory whenever he got the chance to sing, which he was able to do for many years in his church choir and with the Barbershop Chorus that he was a long-standing member of.

With his charming personality, kind heart and generous nature, George was always ready to lend a helping hand.  He volunteered his time with many organizations throughout the years including Boy Scouts of Canada, Stoney Creek Minor Hockey, Stoney Creek Women’s Hockey Association, Stoney Creek Chamber of Commerce and Winona Peach Festival to name a few. George was often referred to as “Mr. Stoney Creek” due to his ongoing community involvement in the city.  He was rewarded for his 35 years of volunteer service with the honor of being chosen as the Stoney Creek Citizen of the Year in 2004.

George was a longtime member and supporter of his church, where he held many positions over the years. He especially enjoyed singing in the choir, greeting the congregation as a warden and participating in the always fun Pub Night skits.

George’s kindness, generosity and love for his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 1-6 p.m.  Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Our Saviour The Redeemer, 25 Lake Avenue South, Stoney Creek. George will be laid to rest at Mountview Gardens Cemetery, 735 Highway 8, Stoney Creek.  A reception will be held in the church hall following the service and interment.  All are welcome to attend.

Special thanks to the staff at Shalom Manor (Mapleview Unit) for the wonderful care and support provided to George and our family during his stay.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shalom Manor in Grimsby.
