It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Valarie Alexandra Kay (nee Rodwell) on September 24, 2025, at the age of 77. Valarie leaves behind her beloved husband of 57 years, Les Kay, and her devoted daughters Jennifer (Bryan) Connolly, Rebecca Carson, and Lisa (Rui) Sousa. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Darren (Niki), Jessica (Matthew), Ben (Kiaera), Emily (Evan), Aidan (Brianna), Nathan (Kasie), Jeremy (Ceilidh), Evan (Haley). Great-grandmother to Levi, and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her brothers Kevin (Mona) Rodwell and Doug (Glenys) Rodwell, and sister-in-law Audrey (Alan) Saunders. Predeceased by her parents Clifford and Cora Rodwell, and by her parents-in-law Bernard and Marjorie Kay, her brother Ken Rodwell, her sister Diane (Bud) Marsh, and sister-in-law Marg Gater.
Valarie embraced life with joy and curiosity. She loved to travel, from destination vacations and cruises to cherished annual cottage retreats with family and friends. She looked forward to golf getaways with “the gals,” lively euchre parties, and the occasional lucky day at the casino, all while cheering on her Toronto Blue Jays. Above all, Valarie’s greatest joy was her family. She loved hosting gatherings, cooking and baking together, and proudly supporting her grandchildren in their many sporting and recreational pursuits. Her boundless love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family will forever remain her legacy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. David Wu for his dedicated care and kindness during Valarie’s time of need, and to Emmanuel House Hospice for the compassion and support they provided.
