Obituary of Mihajlo Kanlic

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mihajlo Kanlic, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Mihajlo shared a beautiful life with his loving wife Stana with whom he was married for 55 years. Together they raised two devoted children, Milena Kudus (Pedja) and Milan (Diana), who carry forward his legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.

He was the proud grandfather of Emilija, Katarina, Tatiana, David, Nadija, and Nikoleta, who brought endless joy and pride into his life.

Mihajlo was born to +Vojko and +Milica Kanlic in Malovan, Kupres.  He was a loving brother to siblings: +Bosiljka (+Risto), +Stojan (+Cvita), +Bozo (+Gospova), +Dusan (Mara), and +Jelica (Slavko), Milica (+Lazo) and Simo (Vesna).

He was a cherished brother-in-law to Radmila (+Mirko), +Vinka (+Nikola), Zorka (+Savo), Jovo (Bosa), Andja (+Mitar), Jela (Djordje), and +Zivorad.

He will also be remembered fondly by his dear nephew Rajko (Koviljka) Kanlic, with whom he shared a special bond. Also by his cherished prijatelji Ljuba and Mile Stanarevic and +Nick and Radmila Mugosa, as well as many Kumovi in Canada and abroad.

Mihajlo lived a full and meaningful life, marked by deep connections with family and friends, unwavering love for those closest to him, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew him. He was a proud Stelco veteran,  and  deeply cherished his St Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church community. His memory will remain forever in our hearts.

Family and friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Tuesday, July 29th from 5-8 p.m., with a Pomen service held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral at 149 Nash Road South, Hamilton with The Very Reverend Father Dragomir Ninkovic officiating.
