Obituary of Theodore Anthony Klunder

May 7, 1945 – July 22, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Theodore “Theo/Ted” Anthony Klunder, who died peacefully on July 22, 2025, at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice after a short but brave battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.

Born in Twello, Netherlands on May 7, 1945, Theo immigrated to Canada as a young boy, carrying with him the values of hard work, humility, and quiet strength that would define his life. Over the course of 58 years as an electrician, he built a reputation for integrity, reliability, and skill that earned the respect of all who worked alongside him. Whether wiring a home or mentoring a young apprentice, Theo led by example, with a steady hand and a generous heart.

He had a lifelong love of rural life and was happiest when repairing small tractors or participating in tractor pulls and single furrow plowing matches.

Theo was a man of few words but countless acts of kindness. He was generous with his time, loyal in his relationships, and unfailing in his support for those he loved. His sense of humor, quiet wisdom, and the spark of gentle stubbornness that made him uniquely him will be remembered with deep affection.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (née Walton); daughter Jennifer Backler; sons-in-law Paul Backler and Reg Perry; and his cherished grandchildren: Grace and Simon Backler, and Paige and Ida Perry. He was predeceased by his daughter Sarah Perry, whom he now joins in peace.

Theo was one of ten siblings and is survived by Bill, Gerry, Diny, and Harold. He was predeceased by Ricki, Ben, John, Annie, and Joseph. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will miss his calm presence and kind heart.

Cremation has taken place, and a private interment will follow. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at The 447 Wing RCAFA, 3210 Homestead Dr., Mount Hope, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Theo’s memory may be made to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
