Obituary of Glen Livingston Martin
Who was this guy anyways? Well, he was a farmer in Binbrook. Born to a farmer (surprise!) he too took up the craft back when Binbrook was still small. He was a carpenter for a while too, and there are at least three homes in the area that he built. He lived on the farm with his wife Myrna for close to 69 years. He was well known in the community and well liked. We would go into town with him in the pick up, and it would take hours because he always found someone to talk to. For a very long time. lt used to drive us crazy. He was a fixture in the Algonquin Highlands too, where he bought a cottage back in the 1960s, and had friends and family visit. Honestly, it's a two bedroom log cabin, but somehow it was normal for his family of four to host his friend's family of eight. With no indoor bathroom. How did we do it?!? Then later on he took up motor homing with a passion, and he and Myrna spent 20 years of winters in the warmer climes of Texas. We're still traumatized by the tornado we survived in Kansas in a motor home, but it didn't slow him down. He could fix anything with twine - we've recently found evidence of such at the farm. And even as he was slowing down, he was still charming the staff at St. Joseph's Villa to give him extra desserts. lt didn't surprise us at all. He was a good man. And will be missed by many.
There will be a Celebration of Life at some point in time. ln the meantime, donations to the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario would have made him happy.
