In Loving Memory of Richard Wilfred “Hop” Mosher

February 12, 1933 – July 2, 2025

Corner Brook, Newfoundland

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of Richard Wilfred Mosher, lovingly known as Wilfred or simply “Hop”, on July 2, 2025, in Hamilton, Ontario. Born on February 12, 1933, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Wilfred lived a life rich in purpose, love, and laughter.

In search of new opportunities, Wilfred made the brave journey from Newfoundland to Ontario with the love of his life, Mary Mosher, by his side. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising six spirited sons and creating a home filled with strength, humour, and unwavering support in Hamilton, Ontario.

Wilfred dedicated over 25 years of his career as a Production Manager at Ennis Paikin Steel Ltd, where his work ethic, fairness, and quiet leadership left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with him. After retirement, Wilfred and Mary lived in Grimsby, then McKellar, and eventually returned to Hamilton, where they spent their final years surrounded by family and memories.

A proud Canadian through and through, Wilfred was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs—an act of loyalty that required patience and perseverance, which he had in spades. He was also an avid traveler who loved hitting the road in his RV with Mary, exploring the country and visiting family from coast to coast.

In December 2024, Wilfred and Mary celebrated an incredible 75 years of marriage—a milestone that spoke volumes about their enduring love and devotion.

Above all, Wilfred was a gentle and proud soul, endlessly devoted to his family. He often said his greatest accomplishment was his boys, and he worked tirelessly to give them every opportunity to succeed. He was their quiet cheerleader, mentor, and guiding hand.

Wilfred faced heartbreak with grace and strength, especially following the loss of his sons Terry (Barbara) and Wayne (Terri deceased), a sorrow he carried close to his heart alongside Mary.

He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Mosher, and their sons Brian (wife Judy), Paul (wife Maureen), Keith (wife Debbie), Jim (wife Gordana).

Wilfred will also be dearly missed by his brother Larry Mosher (wife Debbie), sisters June (Bud) Judy (Doug), Marsh, Bonnie, Winn (Jerry). Sister-in-law Teresa (brother Bill deceased) his 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren spanning from the West Coast to Ontario. Along with family and friends in Newfoundland. His presence, stories, and signature grin will be cherished by all who knew him.

Affectionately known as “Hop,” Wilfred brought warmth and lighthearted humour to every room he entered. He reminded us all of what it means to live simply, love deeply, and laugh often.

Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held in September with immediate family. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date, where friends and loved ones can gather to honour a truly remarkable man.

The Mosher family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Ridgeview Long-Term Care for their kindness and care during Wilfred’s final days.

Forever in our hearts, Hop—your legacy lives on in the love you gave and the family you built.

Love you, Dad. Until we meet again.
