Sharon McKeown, Past District B Commander posted a condolence

To the Tompkins Family, I just learned of Art's passing. Please accept my condolences.
I had the pleasure of serving on District B Council of the Royal Canadian Legion with Art. He was Deputy Zone B6 Commander, when I was Deputy B-7. We moved on to serve as Zone Commanders at the same time. During our terms, we conferred often on situations arising in our respective zones. I recall his occasional outbursts of frustration with rules, which he did accept with time. Always putting Veterans needs second, Family first.
In 2002, because of a Westjet delay and a Mother Nature tantrum, I had the opportunity of an extended visit of 7+ hours, with Art and Daphne, exchanging many life stories, waiting for our flight, delayed due to weather in Hamilton. To have had that time with them both, was a blessing, as I recall, sadly, Daphne passed not long later, as did my 1st Vice President travelling with us.
Art, as I knew him, was a most dedicated Legionnaire.
Though sorry he has passed, his long and full life has left his family with a legacy of happy memories, from which to find comfort, in the days ahead.
May he rest in peace. God Bless.

Sincerest condolences to Uncle Arthur’s family and friends. We know he meant a great deal to you all and will be very much missed in your lives.
Mum (Arthur’s sister Eileen) always spoke very fondly of her big brother and I know she always regretted not popping over to see him in Canada!
I have no recent memory of my Uncle but I am aware of what a kind, loving and generous man he was!!

My sincere condolences to all the family on the passing Art. I worked with Art for many long years at Stelco. Art was a Rigger and I was an Ironworker. We were in the Field Services Maintenance Department. I also would bump into at the Stoney Creek Legion and chat with him if we met. He was always upbeat and smiling. Quite a character but was always a gentleman 1st class. He will be missed by all those of us who knew him. May he Rest In Peace. Psalm 46:10. Jerry(Drdolittle)Martin- Ironworker :)

I was also a rigger at Stelco . Arthur always shared a special place in my heart as one who treated everyone with respect , unlike many others there .It was a particularly special to see him again at different events after I retired . He took the time to learn about you .A man that made this world a better place .
