Obituary of Dr. J. Lee Bingham

Dr. J. Lee Bingham passed away April 21, 2025, having enjoyed a special week surrounded by his family. Husband to Maria, beloved Father to Kathleen, Allison and Ian, cherished brother and uncle and precious Nampie and Papa to his six grandchildren.

Born in Toronto to John and Kay Bingham, he graduated from McMaster Medical School in 1979 and completed parts of his residency in Newfoundland. He eventually settled in Lindsay, starting a rural medical clinic in Woodville with Maria, who held his hand throughout life, personally and professionally.

Always searching for quiet, Lee enjoyed early morning tea time, rocking his grandchildren to sleep, backcountry canoe tripping, sailing or watching the birds - while designing new ways to keep the squirrels out of his bird feeders. He loved stories (especially from the Nursery History of England) and was often found reading with his grandchildren or sharing tales of his worldwide travels. He enjoyed teaching and was keen to share clinical pearls and skills with the next generation of medical professionals. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whether it be on a grand adventure, watching his grandkids’ extracurricular activities or an ordinary evening by the fire. He will be fondly remembered when we are canoeing, skiing, at the cottage, every time we look at one of his paintings and in the many moments in life that he wanted to share with us.

His legacy will be marked not only by the growth of the trees in his arboretum, but by his children and grandchildren who will continue their lives influenced by his sense of adventure, service to others, appreciation of nature and his unconditional love for his family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grimsby Benevolent Fund
