Obituary of Branko Vidic
April 22, 1933 – March 24, 2025
Passed away peacefully in his 92nd year after a brief illness. He was born in Benkovac, Yugoslavia in 1933 and was the second oldest of 9 children. Branko emigrated with his wife Nela and son Bob to Canada in 1960.
Beloved husband of Nela for 67 years, and devoted father to Bob (Carmela), Dmitar Mićo (Thierry), Milena (Geoffrey) Litherland. Cherished Deda to Marko, Daniel (Jillian), Julia, Justin and Devon, and proud great-grandfather of Lucy.
Branko is predeceased by his parents Miloś & Anica Vidic, as well as his sister Stana, and his brothers Gojko, Dmitar, Stevan, Ljuban, and Petar.
He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Ljubica Vladetic (Stoney Creek) and Olga Muskardin (Croatia), his nephews Marko (Kosovka) and Miśo (Lepa) Krekic and his niece Natalie Vladetic (Peter). He is also fondly remembered by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mario and Nada Spar and their families (New York).
Branko will be missed by Kumovi: Simic (Dusan, Djuka, Boris), Mirkovic (Susan, Dragan) of Toronto and the Popovic family Boris (2024), Vukica, Peter (Sheny), Maria & Gina of Chicago. He is predeceased by close family friends Vaso and Vida Kosevic. Remembered fondly by their children Olga (John), Nada (Nikola), and Mira. Branko leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Europe, Australia and the United States.
The family would like to recognize the special bond with his nephew Marko Krekic of Burlington, who at age 17 immigrated from Yugoslavia (1970) and lived with Branko & Nela. He is a cherished member of the family and was a great support to Branko.
Branko was a journeyman plumber and proud member of the UA Local 67 Plumbers & Pipefitters Association for 57 years. He was fortunate to enjoy 29 years of retirement before his passing. His pride and joy were his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Branko enjoyed 30+ years of annual winter vacations to Barbados with Nela, where they met many friends, both locally and from abroad. Branko was very proud of his annual wine production, and he and Nela tended their garden each year resulting in exceptional tomatoes!
The family is grateful for the exceptional care that Branko received from the nurses and doctors in the ICU during his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton Ontario (stjoesfoundation.ca) in memory of Branko.
