Obituary of David 'Dave' Luxon
With the heaviest of hearts, our family announces the passing of David Allan Luxon, a beloved man who has left an indelible footprint in many lives. Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Brother, Friend, Neighbour, and Colleague.
Time stopped at the age of 79 for David (Dave) here on earth after a valiant battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 11th, 2025. He is survived by his daughter Kelly Thomas (Chris), daughter- in-law Tracey Luxon, brother Barry Luxon (Claudia), sister Janet Shuker, sister Barb Randall (Jim). Predeceased by his wife Carol, son Ken, mother Marjorie and father Lloyd, mother-in-law Louise and father-in-law Morley, sister-in-law Lois, brother-in-law Doug and niece Kim, brother-in-law Lynn. Dave's memory and legacy lives on through his grandchildren who he poured his love onto through their entire lives. Alexander, Lauren, Zachary (Rachel) and Nicholas (Hayley) were his treasures. Dave was overjoyed to recently welcome his first great-grandchild, Henry, to the family to carry on his name. His nieces and nephews were his pride and joy as well - Lisa (Bryan), Lori (Garry), Mark (Lisa), Greg (Krista), Jay, Kristy (Peter), Steve (Jen) Kevin (Brenda), Charlene, and all of their children.
Dave found deep friendship and love with his loyal companion Christa MacDonald who we can never thank enough for everything she has done for our family. A very special thank you to his other steadfast friends Ray and Rose and to Christa's whole family who he also adored. Our gratefulness to you all for welcoming him into your lives with open arms.
To say he will be greatly missed is truly an understatement. Dave was a very proud and appreciated member of the UA Local 67, Hamilton. He was an honourable member of the Pipefitter Union for over 55 years. Dave will always be remembered by his 'union brothers' for his passionate commitment to preserving the integrity of rights for all members. He was a continued contributing member following his retirement on committees and helping to organize events for the retirees group. Dave proudly wore the hats, jackets, t-shirts, pins and displayed the awards that were given to him through the years.
Dave lived a life of service to others. He was always the first person to jump in to help anyone who needed assistance anywhere he went. He was part of the Stoney Creek United Church family for over 50 years and spent summers for the last 30 years as part of a special "Lake" family in the Haliburton Highlands.
As a dedicated family man, the family tree was an integral focus of his life. A rich tapestry of relationships with grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles was a highlight of his years growing up in Stoney Creek. The heritage of close relationships he had with his cousins has been passed to his own family. Dave was an active person who took every opportunity to show up for people. You could always find him supporting his grandchildren in all of their endeavours.
A man with an unforgettable smile and spirit of generosity is now in the arms of God. A truly blessed life full of friendships and full of class is how Dave will always be remembered.
"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds on circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die."
