Obituary of Raymond Radovan Rikic

Surrounded by his loving family, Ray (Radovan) passed away on February 12, 2025, at the age of 65. He leaves behind his wife, Joyce (Radojka) and daughters, Julia (Austin) and Sophia. Much loved brother of Maria (Alan) and Ujak to Victoria and Raymond; brother-in-law to John (Kasia) and Tetak to Daniel (Chabely) and David. Ray is predeceased by his parents, Zivka and Trifun. He will be dearly missed by his Kumovi and cousins in Canada and the U.S.A., along with extended family in Croatia and Republika Srpska.

Ray retired from the Hamilton Police Service in 2015, having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant .He was proud to have served his community for 37 years. He looked back fondly on his policing career, recounting many stories (and he had a million of them!), but he cherished, most of all, the camaraderie and long-standing friendships forged during those years. In 1988, Ray was awarded The Star of Courage by Governor General Jeanne Sauvé.

In the last several years, Ray dealt with multiple health issues, yet, he always rallied for another day. His family is grateful to the doctors who steadfastly supported him in navigating through these challenges: Dr. De Le, Dr. M. Gupta, Dr. C. Scallan and Dr. B. van der Woerd.

While his journey here has come to an end, Ray was grateful for the gift of time afforded to him so that he may see his children grow. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. S. Sharma and the ICU medical staff at the Hamilton General Hospital for their relentless efforts, care and compassion over the past month.

Family and friends will be received at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek on Monday, February 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Pomen at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 153 Nash Road South with Very Reverend Father Djuro Samac officiating. Interment at Woodland Cemetery. A memorial meal will follow at the church hall. Online condolences and notes of sympathy may be left at www.donaldvbrown.ca

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love; but the greatest of these is love.
