Obituary of John 'Jack' Frederick Finan
December 10, 1919 – February 8, 2025
Sir John Finan, Flight Lieutenant (Ret.), WWII Veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, in his 106th year, has flown his final mission and will be reunited with his beloved Scottish War Bride of 71 years, the late Eileen Johnston.
Jack leaves behind 5 daughters, Jacqueline (Don), Beverley (David), Judi, Kerry-Anne (Barry), Michelle (Randall), 12 Grandchildren and their partners, 17 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Step-Great-Grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his wife Eileen, daughter Alexis, daughter June, son-in-law Garry and grandson Craig.
Jack always enjoyed flying, travelling, sailing, spending time with family and his “Famous Grouse” Scotch. Jack was a true “Officer and a Gentleman”. He was a kind and compassionate man, who was devoted to his faith. He was also very grateful and humbled to be acknowledged for his military service. Jack had received several certificates and medals of honour, including the highest honour of the Insignia of Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honour.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Parish, Nash Rd. and Barton St., Hamilton on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery in the Field of Honour.
A Celebration of Life will follow at Warplane Heritage Museum, 9280 Airport Rd., Mount Hope, from 1-4pm.
As an expression of sympathy or in lieu of flowers, doing a random act of kindness in his honour or a donation to the 447 Wing, Mt Hope or Warplane Heritage Museum would be greatly appreciated.
Jack will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.
