Obituary of Rosella Bernice Emily Wilson

January 11, 1940 to January 26, 2025

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Rosella Bernice Emily Wilson (nee Vautour), at the age of 85, on January 26, 2025, surrounded by her family. Rose (Rosie, Babes) will be forever loved and missed by her ‘one and only’ husband and best friend of 66 years, Douglas Wilson, her loving daughters Lori and Patti Wilson, grandchildren whom she was so proud of, Michael Cryer, Aleah and Sam Sheculski, and Taylor Wilson-Tate, and great-grandchildren that she adored, Wilson, Cayden, Isaac, Brennen and Addisen.

Predeceased by her parents Alta Thelma Vautour (nee Webb) and Amede Joseph Vautour, and her sisters Doris McDougall and Ellen Ackerman, and brothers Karl Lister and Vernon Vautour.

Rose was the matriarch of our family. She was always present in her children and grandchildren’s lives, with daily phone calls, family dinners, and card game nights. She always attended her great-grandchildren’s singing and sporting events.

Rose was born in McAdam, New Brunswick and moved to Stoney Creek, Ontario at the age of 17. She met her husband and best friend Douglas, while working together at Clark’s IGA. It didn’t take much time for Rose and Doug to realize they were soul mates, and the two married in Fruitland, Ontario, on September 13, 1958.

Rose and Doug shared many adventures together with their best friends Diana and Garry Hurkens, including adventures on a motorcycle or snow mobile, and many nights playing Yahtzee at the card table.

Rose loved entertaining and having large gatherings with family and friends at their previous home on East 39th, and the many years they spent at The Net trailer park while enjoying retirement. Their home was always the centre of the family, and family as well as friends often stopped by unannounced, as it was a warm and welcoming place. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and was not only a Mom and Nana by blood, but also a Mom and Nana to the many generations of close family friends that were brought home by her children and grandchildren. She was the kind of woman who gave unconditional love and support, no questions asked, no hesitations, and always made the people she loved a priority.

Rose, Babes, Mom, Nana; our hearts are truly broken and our lives are forever changed. You will always be loved beyond measure and the centre of our world. We take comfort knowing you are no longer in any pain and will honour your legacy and memory until we meet again. We love you….more.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Celebration of Life arrangements to come at a later date.

Babes,

As long as I live,

I will stay by your side,

I will be your companion,

Your friend and your guide.

As long as I live,

As long as you care,

I’ll do anything for you,

I’ll go anywhere.

I’ll bring you the sunshine,

I’ll comfort your fears,

I’ll gather up rainbows,

To chase all of your tears.

As long as forever,

My love will be true,

For as long as I live,

I’ll love only you.

Love,

Doug xoxo
