Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend to All
With hearts heavy yet filled with gratitude for her remarkable life, we announce the passing of Brenda St. Elma Lewis on January 15, 2025, at the age of 84. Surrounded by the love of her family, Brenda departed this world as she lived in it, full of grace, love, and joy. Born on May 14, 1940, Brenda was the daughter of Gouldbourne and Violet Thornhill.
Brenda was a vibrant and compassionate soul whose presence could light up any room. She was the heartbeat of her family, a steadfast source of unconditional love and boundless support. As a mother, grandmother, and aunt, Brenda devoted her life to nurturing, guiding, and uplifting those she held dear. Her wisdom, kindness, and warmth will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of calling her their own. Brenda’s zest for life was contagious, and her laughter was a melody that will echo in our hearts forever. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply being a listening ear, Brenda had a way of making everyone feel special and deeply loved. Her friends and family will remember her for her generous spirit, radiant smile, and her unwavering commitment to those she cared for. A devoted pillar of faith and strength, Brenda touched countless lives with her humility and compassion. She lived a life rich with purpose, joy, and belief in Christ and the power of love.
Brenda is survived by her beloved children Douglas (Sue), Ivan, Vincent, John (Melanie) and Melanie (Tony); her supportive daughters-in-law Diane and Elizabeth Lewis; her treasured grandchildren Amy Walker, Brieanna Ivany (Greg), Hailey Lewis, Sierra Lewis, Simone Lewis, Janelle Reid, Isabelle Lewis and Terrell Reid; her niece Andrea Thornhill, and nephews, Charles Davis (d), Gerald Nicholls, Tony Fields and Michael Thornhill (Janelle). Beloved sister to Lionel Davis (d), Rita Nicholls (d), Chesterfield Thornhill and Marjorie Fields; and loving sister-in-law to Joyce Davis (d), Joyce Thornhill, and Colin Fields (d); and extended family and friends.
Viewing will be on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive Stoney Creek, Ontario, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00– 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Brenda’s Life will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Victory International Church, 2799 Barton Street East, Hamilton, Ontario.
Family and friends are invited to honor her memory and share in the joy of knowing such a remarkable woman, followed by a burial at Eastlawn Cemetery, 2280 Barton Street East, Hamilton, Ontario. The family kindly requests donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, an organization close to Brenda’s heart.
